The Emirates World Humanitarian Mobile Hospital recently launched another medical mission in Morocco using the agency's BLU-MED Response Systems facility. In May, the portable hospital was rapidly repositioned from its previous operational site in Southern Sudan to the Missour region of Morocco.
The Emirates mobile hospital initiative will provide affordable treatment programs, prevention training and awareness for six months. The initiative will also send medical convoys from the mobile hospital to other areas in the country. Medical teams comprised of emergency medicine physicians, general surgeons, pediatricians, cardiologists, ophthalmologists, critical care physicians, and support staff from the UAE, Morocco and other countries will travel to different remote areas to provide treatment and medical aid. At least 20 children have already received surgical treatment as part of a UAE-Moroccan joint program to treat children with congenital deformities and elderly people with chronic diseases.
The mobile hospital in Missour includes 25 inpatient beds along with sections for primary care, emergency care, surgery, a cardiac catheterization unit and a dental clinic. In addition to equipment for sterilizing medical instruments, the facility includes intensive care units, intermediate care unit, pharmacy, laboratory, and x-ray.
